Today, the Female Journalists Association of Liberia (FeJAL) celebrated and honored three distinguished media institutions as Gender Champions, following FeJAL’s third quarter Media Monitoring

ELBC Radio, OK FM, and Women Voices newspaper stood out in their respective categories for their exceptional dedication to showcasing women’s portrayal and representation in the media, emphasizing both the quantity and quality of their coverage.

ELBC was recognized as the institution that reported the highest number of stories related to women, OK FM was commended for having the most women newscasters, and Women Voices was awarded for featuring the highest number of women as news sources during the monitoring period from March 1 to May 31, 2024.

In appreciation of their commitment to promoting gender equity and equality in media coverage, each media institution was presented with a certificate of recognition and three digital recorders to aid journalists in their reporting efforts, eliminating any obstacles related to equipment constraints.

The objective of this acknowledgment is to inspire media houses to intensify their initiatives in narrowing the gender gap within the media landscape. The provision of digital recorders aims to empower journalists with the necessary tools to enhance their reporting capabilities effectively.

As the Media Monitoring project progresses towards its climax in October, FeJAL remains optimistic that Newsroom Leaders will amplify their support towards FeJAL’s mission of addressing gender disparity in the Liberian Media.
